  18. <p>     A life sentence in prison usually means just that, but not
  19. so in the National Football League. That's fortunate for
  20. ex-Washington Redskins defensive end Dexter Manley, who was
  21. reinstated last week by N.F.L. commissioner Paul Tagliabue just a
  22. year after his "lifetime" suspension for drug abuse. The former
  23. Pro Bowler may play as long as he continues going to support
  24. groups for his drug problem. But he won't be sacking
  25. quarterbacks for the Redskins, because the team dropped him from
  26. the roster. Now he's headed for the Phoenix Cardinals. Says
  27. Manley, 31: "I have joy in my heart because I have the
  28. opportunity to play football again."
